Cataloging My Home

When it comes down to it I am a Librarian. Due to this I wanted to have something of an inventory of the periodicals, books, and materials that I have at my disposal. All too often I am searching for new inspiration and forget what I already have. My first step was to research what methods I can use to keep track of my items in a way that is still searchable and able to be organized. I started with Notion, then I discovered that I cannot opt out of allowing my data to be harvested by AI so I then cancelled that option. At present I was not able to find an inexpensive option that does not utilize AI so I decided to go with the old fashioned spreadsheet. I am currently using MacBooks so I have created mine on Numbers. Since I can use the sort function on separate columns I am able to add in a category that states what craft/category each item is for.

Since I know myself, and a huge spreadsheet with everything in it will be way too overwhelming, I have a separate spreadsheet for each type of item. One is periodicals (magazines), craft books, fiction books, stabilizers, quilt fabric, sewing patterns, etc. This is going to be a very long term project. I have decided that my magazines and books are not going to go onto my shelf without being either photographed or put into my spreadsheet. Before I had the spreadsheet started I was just photographing everything and I am going to have to add everything into my spreadsheet over time. Speaking of photography, I did take some photos using my cellphone mounted on my dashboard while I was driving home after the museum visit. I did do this safely by spamming the photo button while looking at the road. I am still unable to get good nightspots on my iPhone, however I was able to color correct a couple of these photos to get the blues and pinks a little closer to what they looked like while I was driving home. I have not taken the time to see if I can turn the inspiration into a tapestry, however that is part of the plan.

Until next time remember to Live Life a Little More Abstract!
