I did have to work on Saturday so I did not get as much time to enjoy as I would have liked. I do get this upcoming weekend off. Despite working I did manage to get eight book sleeves sewn together, however two of them are too small to fit a paperback so they are not available on the shop. The fabric unraveled a little more than I thought it would so I had to redo a couple of seams.
I always find it fascinating to look at the lunar phases after I notice a pattern occurring. Right now we are entering into the full-moon phase. This is a time of new beginnings, and a little bit of madness. The madness started earlier this week with some really strange interactions with patrons at work, and since next week is the actual full moon I expect the strange to continue. It is also a time of renewal in projects that interest me. I am loving making these book sleeves and I have some ideas for projects that I can take to a very special thing I am doing in May (though I really need to get a start on those).
All in all I am finding this time to be one of renewed interest and starting new projects despite the cold outside. I had hoped it would be warmer so I could get a bit of a start on my garden, alas that is not going to happen, though I might find it in me to get some seedlings started this weekend.

So, I drive with my right foot working the gas and brake. About a year ago I decided to take a 12 hour round-trip drive in one day. Ever since then my ankle has been bothering me a little bit on and off. When I went to my annual appointment, they suspect that it’s a strained tendon and the only way to heal. It is by staying off of it for a week as much as possible. I did try wearing ankle braces for about a month, however that hasn’t caused the pain to go away entirely. After discussing it with my supervisor, it was decided that my taking off work would be the best way to heal.
This sounds like a great dream right? Well for me it was a stark reminder that I have some form of task paralysis. There is the majority of me saying, I really want to get back into reading so I’m going to download some books that look good and finally get those two books by authors that I know I will love. Then there is a little niggling voice that says, you’re already listening to the murder podcast you know you like, what if you don’t like the books you’ve chosen…that author was doing something fishy at the end of the last book do you really want to be let down…etc.
This amounts to, a week later, having read/listened to none of the books I wanted to. I did manage to get two projects completed and some progress on the third.
The first is a handspun shawl that I finished knitting.
This has not been washed or blocked, those two steps should open up the lace a little bit and straighten out the edges. I’m very pleased with how it looks, very spring!
I also managed to hand stitch a set of applique coasters from a kit I had not touched in quite a while.
I love how they turned out, I deliberately used larger stitching in a contrasting color to give them a rustic look. I think that the intention translated well.
The final project I made progress on is my Tula Pink Nova Quilt.
The pattern is Tula Pink, the color selection is mine. I had intended for it to look space themed, when I showed my cousin she called it my ‘Halloween Thing’. So I hope that the last two rows help the Space Theme come together.
I think that is all that I have to report, sorry it has been a while since I have posted. My ankle is feeling better and I now know to take more frequent breaks even if it makes the drive longer.

I am working on auditioning patterns to quilt my Aunts quilt with. A cousin suggested a couple of styles that hold sentimental significance for our family so I am going with those. I’m going to let the patterns ruminate for a little bit while I decide if I like them there or not.
This is not the only project I have going on at this time. I’m also still working on getting my craft room organized. It does not look like I have made a lot of progress, however I am considering every step a small win.
I have many of my fabrics, threads, and other crafts on the shelves, labeled, and mostly organized. In attempting to use up some of the smaller fabrics and pieces I am trying to make small projects. This should free up some of the space and help my organization as I see how I am using materials. This type of organizing is already helping me feel more motivated and willing to do some crafting.
I have been experimenting with making mug rugs using some basic quilting patterns on my embroidery machine, this also doubled as a good way to see how the pink thread was going to show up on white fabric. I have also been using some of my scrap fabric to play around with fusible applique on squares to see how I like them and what kind of applique I can do/enjoy.
Of course I cannot be happy with just one type of project, though I guess this could also be considered sewing.
There is some, very slow, progress being made on creating a beaded cord necklace. This craft takes a lot of beads, a lot of time, and patience to ensure that the white cord is completely covered and that the beads a laying where I would like them to be. I am enjoying this as my slow craft.
Other things are going on in the background, my local library had a book sale so I need to weed out some of the books I am no longer using to make room for the ones I just bought. I am attempting to coordinate programming for one of the guilds I belong to. There is some minor medical stuff going on in the background. Work has some exciting things going on as some construction is going to get started and we are ramping up for summer reading, which can add some stress.
All in all it looks like this year is going to be fascinating. I’m hoping to continue adding fun stuff, and hopefully add some items to my storefront again in the near future.

Just a super quick update. I managed to get the inside of the dumpling bag soon and I’m working on pinning the outside of the handles so that I can sew those shut tidily. Since I am still coughing though it’s much better. I have not made any progress on my Aunt quilt.
This weekend, I’m going to concentrate on trying to get better and relaxing and reading some. Somehow, I’ve been scheduled for three weekends in a row off, which is just about unheard of, so I am planning on thoroughly enjoying them and hopefully getting some work done around the house.

So at my most recent therapy appointment my therapist told me I’m like crabgrass, I changed that to a dandelion, but the sentiment is the same. Nothing can keep me down for very long, giving up (suicide or self harm) have never occurred to me. I still have major ups and downs, things still stress me out to the point that I am on anti-anxiety (anti-depressant) medication. I shared in my last post that the reminders of how much time has passed since losing Mom and Dad really got to me. Due to these circumstances I decided to give myself a break from people for Thanksgiving Day. I planned on doing some major cleaning, instead I wound up doing some Major Crafting. Patterns for Pirates has an amazing amount of free patterns and they are giving more away during this Holiday Season. Their patterns can be found here:
I am hoping to sell them, partially to purchase more material, partially to say that I’ve made a sale in the first year of my etsy shop being open, and partially to help pay my bills. Oh well, weather I do or do not I had fun making them, and I know that the pattern is easy enough for us to make at Teen Crafting in 2024 as well as Adult Crafting. The plushies are not all that I made, I had a ton of fun experimenting with my Finishing Sander and wet felting.
I love how the felt turned out, I am presently trying to figure out the best way to turn the resulting felt into cup-cozies. While experimenting one of my multi layered pieces turned into fantastic geode slices as well as a beautiful feather. I used Gorilla Glue Hot Glue to put pin backs on the felt after everything dried, they will not detach easily! I love how they turned out and hope that some one can give them a good home!
Of course they are also in my Etsy Store.
I have about three baby blankets that I need to add binding onto as well as one very textured baby blanket I’m trying to use a quilt as you go method for creation. Soon there will be cup cozies, baby blankets, and burp cloths in my Etsy store.
The burp cloths are made with terrycloth on one side and fleece on the other. I finished the top stitching before work this morning. I still need to bury the threads, and run them through a wash cycle using Dreft. Once I have that finished these will be up in my shop. I’m thinking about selling them as a package; one dinosaur back, one black back for $5. It will be 2/$5, the only reason I can do that is because I managed to get the fabric as remnants so they were very inexpensive.
One of the things that I need to consciously stop doing is trying to undercut the other sellers on Etsy. Some individuals have items, like the dino nuggets, for less than $10 each. I do not know how they even purchase the supplies for that let alone sew and stuff them. They are not a huge time commitment but the Sherpa fabric I used to get a lovely look costs $16/yard, then I had to purchase stuffing. I will try to price my goods according to what supplies cost me and how much time they took me to make. That means that my quilts will not have really fancy quilting unless they cost a bit more, I don’t have a long arm and the absolute least expensive method for me to turn my machine into something like a long arm is $500 (my car payment, or the price of my fancy quilt on my Etsy Store that I made using a Tula Pink Pattern). Sending things out to be long armed looks inexpensive until you see that a small quilt will probably cost $50-$100 to long arm (there goes any profit/hope of selling it).
That is the progress that I have made so far, I hope to finish the baby blankets and mug cozies so that I have plenty of items in my store. There are some plans for me to go to a few Craft Shows in 2024 to see if that is a better market for my wares.

I do not have any photos to add to this post, though I have been working hard on several projects.
These past two weeks have been a lesson on understanding how much work you are putting into something before you make an estimate. For one of my commissions I based the estimate on how much is usually charged for machine binding a quilt. What I am actually doing is hand cutting around individual flowers from a quilt then hand turning and binding each flower. Instead of the 20 minutes the machine binding would take this is taking about 3 hours per flower. Over 14-19 different flowers this is going to take quite a bit of time. I’m enjoying the work, especially knowing that I am helping to preserve an antique quilt in a way that it can be shared among family members. The age and delicacy of the fabric is why I cannot, well why I am very reluctant, to machine stitch these pieces. I have five flowers done and one more pinned and ready to stitch. At present I am trying to pin two at a time then stitch them up, this kind of batching allows me to feel like I am getting them done faster, though I know that I am not. The only thing that I regret is no matter how carefully I pin the petals of the flowers I cannot completely eliminate tiny folds or puckers from appearing.
Work has been very interesting as we work on finishing up the ordering for the year while preparing for a Haunted Library fundraiser. Thanks to my federal tax refund I am not panicked about my upcoming work trip and I have also been able to order a quiet, I hope, sander for my wet felting. I am still going to take a hiatus from my guilds while I decide if they are serving me at this time in my life. I know that it probably sounds silly but I often feel that the two weekends a month I go to guild meetings means that I do not have enough time to do other things during the week. I’m going to see if I am more productive when not going to meetings or if I just get lonely.
There is a lot more going on, I’m trying to work on my Dream Book planner to figure out what I want my goals to be next year, plan for crafts for 2024 at work, and so much more. No matter what I will always count my blessings that I am able to Mostly care for myself and that I have a loving family with amazing friends. I was able to visit my sister in Pittsburgh last week, the day before the 5 year anniversary of mom’s passing. It was a great visit and I was finally able to meet my sisters friends.
The world is a bright and beautiful place, though the heat seems to be off at work.
Yay! This past week was the last week of our summer reading program. We will be having a finale and prize drawing this upcoming Saturday. I’m teaching a needle tatting class to a guild that day so I will not be available. For the end of our summer reading program I ran my usual classes and two extra events. Due to this I’ve been really busy and not able to get a lot of crafting done.
I have been working on hiding the threads for my big quilt, I’m done tying the top and bottom threads together and just need to thread each one into a needle and slide that needle between the top and bottom quilt pieces and then snip any extra thread off. This will help the threads stay together better and not allow the quilting to unravel. I did wash the quilt and it has amazing crinkle. I’ll post photos next week when I’m ready to put it in my Etsy store.
I haven’t managed to make much progress on my second Tunisian crochet square but I’m having fun with it. I have managed to make progress on a couple of projects. I put some wood filler into the cracks I’ve found on my back porch railing.
I am certainly going to have to do more sanding and possibly more filling. I cannot wait to get this ready for the winter. Speaking of prep for the winter, I’m still working on my garage. I’m going to show you the shame of my garage window and the hole I need to fill in.
As stated in my earlier post about how to repair the window, get the right sized glass. It makes all the difference unless you are good at cutting glass…which I am obviously not good at.
My handyman left a bunch of stuff behind that I need to figure out what to do with. I’m more concerned about getting the hole covered so that I can store my garden stuff in there for the winter. I did spray the place with all natural cat repellent as well as a bug spray to make sure I can get in there without any real problems. I’m on vacation in two weeks so I plan on doing more work at my home then, while wearing some very durable gloves.
I also managed to finish a garment which is one of the few garments where you would ask your significant other ‘Does this make my butt look big enough?’ I am going to be playing the part of a mother from 1880s who is in mourning. I’m trying to put together a costume with minimal purchasing so I used an old pillowcase that I stuffed with fabric scraps and sewed in a semi circle. I then sewed a few lines to roughly keep the stuffing in place before adding in some twill tape to use as ties. This is not how you should make this garment if you want it to last and look really authentic. For a quick job this is an alright result. It will cover my entire backside and give my hips a little more padding. I’m going to try to put together my rough costume this upcoming week to see if it all works.
The final bit of news I have is that my local government is going to release a new grant this week for an opportunity to get home repairs completed. My last application contained a bunch of small things I would like to get done and my application was denied. This time I’m asking them why my last application was denied as well as asking for a list of contractors that will do repairs on my roof. I did see an article released about someone that obtained the initial 10k grant toward a roof replacement and their roof was actually leaking. I’m trying to get this repaired before it leaks, so here’s hoping.
